All public officers should be accountable as the principle of governance demands.
Nakuru-based businessman Maina Wakabura says accountability of public officers is fundamental to good governance, democratic principles, and the effective functioning of public institutions.
According to him, it ensures that public officers act in the best interests of the public, uphold ethical standards, and maintain the trust and confidence of the citizens they serve.
He pointed out that this should be a norm for public officers and those who fail should face the full wrath of law.
The philanthropist who has an interest in Nakuru East Parliamentary seat come 2027, has also challenged the National Government on matters Road maintenance levy.
He says the levy was increased from Ksh 7 to Ksh 25 contrary to public opinion during public participation.
“As we come to terms with “broad-based Government” appointments, the Executive must reconsider the Road maintenance levy fund which was increased from ksh 7 to ksh 25 despite public opinion based on the Public Participation forum being on the contrary,” he said.
The businessman adds that this will have harsh impact as there shall be high operational costs on businesses which are directly transferred to consumers.
