Nakuru-based CBO ‘Disability Beyond Understanding’ marks 3rd anniversary

Nakuru-based CBO ‘Disability Beyond Understanding’ on July 13, 2024 marked 3 years since establishment.
Members of the organization led by Executive Officer Madelina Mkirema and Chairperson Peter Otieno, visited three special schools; Njoro Salvation Army Special School, Pangani Special School and Ngala Special School.
Mkirema says they visited the three schools signifying the three years they have been in operation.
“We chose to visit three special schools as a way of marking our third anniversary,” she stated.
Madelina Mkirema says for the three years, several visits have been made to special schools and Institutions in Nakuru.
Among them Nakuru Hill special school, Nakuru Women Prison, Ngala special school, Njoro Salvation Army Special School, and Pangani Special School.
The third anniversary was marked at Pangani Special School where they members of the CBO joined learners and teachers in cake cutting session, songs and dance.
According to Mukirema, moving forward the Organization will do more in touching the lives of children with special needs.
Mukirema- a Journalist by profession, is also the Founder of the CBO.
She says beyond her journalistic roles, she is committed to put a smile on the faces of Persons Living with disability and other vulnerable groups through the Organization started in 2020.
Born and raised in Kisauni, Mombasa County, Madelena who is in her late 20s studied at St.Joseph’s Herman Max in Mtopanga in Coast region and later joined Eastmore Girls’ in Nakuru.
After High school, she studied air ticketing before Joining Mombasa Aviation College for her Mass communication studies.
She currently works in a faith-based Radio Station in Nakuru.
Disability Beyond Understanding has a membership of 15 with a clear office structure that includes Chairperson, Secretary and Treasurer.
Chairperson Mr.Peter Otieno Ezekiel- who was born and raised in Homabay’s Kendu Bay but shifted to Nakuru, says  there is need for community sensitization on the rights of PWDs.
