According to Mkirema, this is the only way to ensure the learners with special needs also enjoy their time in school.
“We applied for a grant from Safaricom Foundation and that is what has enabled this donation. We want to put a smile on the faces of these learners with special needs,” she stated.
Sentiments echoed by Peter Otieno who called on society to embrace those living with disability challenges.
Otieno noted that most of these learners have continued to do well in their studies and should be supported.
“Gone are the days when PWDs used to be hidden in houses. We need to arise and support our learners with special needs,” he said.
On her part Ngala Primary Special School Deputy Headteacher Ms Mary Burugu lauded Disability Beyond Understanding organization for the gesture.
According to her, very few have shown such gesture to the learners with special needs.
She called on other well wishers to step in and ensure that such learners are embraced.
“As a school, we are very grateful for the gesture. We should all embrace these learners with special needs so that we can make a better society,” she stated.
