No more swapping of Nominated MCAs in counties as Senate makes amendments on Election Laws

There will be no more swapping of Nominated MCAs following a move taken by Senate to amendthe Election Laws.

The Senate has amended the Election laws to make sure that all Nominated MCAs are registered voters in their respective Counties they are Nominated into as per the Election Amendment bill 2024.

This was informed by a successful Petition filed by Nakuru-based Human Rights Defender Laban Omusundi.

Omusundi filed the petition in the Senate under the strength of article 119 of the Constitution of Kenya, to make sure that Nominated MCAs are Residents and registered voters in their respective Counties.

He has lauded Senate for the latest development.

“I find it a great success despite the fact that it may not heal the hullabaloos in nominations of Nominated MCAs a hundred percent but it will regulate the excesses that has been advanced by the political elites,” he stated.

Omusundi has once again, challenged Kenyans to continue exercising their power as enshrined in the Constitution of Kenya 2010 and ensure enhanced governance issues both at National and County level.
