No evictions from county houses, Governor Kihika assures tenants

Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika has assured tenants residing in county houses across Biashara, Flamingo, and Kivumbini Wards that there will be no evictions, dispelling rumors of planned evictions.

Speaking at Kamukunji grounds on Saturday, Governor Kihika announced that the County Government has waived Sh693 million in accumulated tenant debts, and tenants now have three and a half months to begin remitting their rents, with payments due by December 1.

Kihika revealed that to streamline the housing sector in Nakuru and eliminate cartels, the county will introduce a Paybill number for cashless payments directly to county accounts.

Additionally, a fresh leasing process for current tenants will be conducted, managed by the Bondeni Housing Office.

The county houses in the three wards include Paul Machanga, Abongoloya, Lumumba, Kivumbini 1, 2, 3, 4, Shauri Yako, Kaloleni A, B, C, Phase II, Kimathi, Flamingo, Mohammed Kahero, Moi Flats, and Ojuka Estate. 

The event was also attended by MCAs Fadhili Msuri (Biashara), Neto Sakwa (Kivumbini), and David Muraya (Flamingo), County Secretary Dr. Samuel Mwaura, CECMs Stephen Kuria (Trade) and John Kihagi (Lands), City Manager Gitau Thabanja, Chief Officers Edward Gitau (Public Participation), Kamau Kuria (Housing), Kennedy Mungai (Environment), Political Advisor Francis Njoroge.
