Lake Nakuru National Park, a Ramsar site in Nakuru

Lake Nakuru National Park is one of the many Tourists’ attraction sites that Nakuru county boasts of.

The Park is located about 140KM Northwest of Nairobi and South of Nakuru.

A visit to the Park and you enjoy the beautiful view of Lake Nakuru in addition to the Wildlife.

The entry fee stands at Ksh 800 for adults and Ksh 250 for children.

If you have never encountered the beautiful flamingos, then a visit to Lake Nakuru National Park will ensure you have a view of the birds on the shores of Lake Nakuru.

Infact, there are also several special of birds.

Another unique aspect of Lake Nakuru National Park is that the Park is the most vital Rhino habitats in Kenya.

It is also home to lions, rhinos, zebras and buffaloes.

History has it that the Park was initially designated a Bird sanctuary in 1961 and later extended to 6000 hectares in 1964 before 63 square kilometers were gazetted in 1968.

It was then extended to it’s current size of 188 square kilometers in 1974 with generous funding from the World Wide Fund for Nature(WWF).

But come 1984, it was established as the first Government-managed rhino sanctuary.

Then in 1987,it was declared a Ramsar site because of its importance as a wetland and recently as a UNESCO World Heritage site.

The Lake Nakuru National Park has several entrance points among them Main entrance near Summit Resort in Nakuru, Lanet Gate and Nderit Gate.
